Jessica Ricci Jewelry Launches Tanzania Inspired Collection

Jessica Ricci’s recent travels to Tanzania, a place of both engulfing beauty and grinding poverty, were the inspiration for the recent additions to her Wanderlust Collection. Volunteers such as Ricci raised money to help fund micro-finance loans

, distribute mosquito nets and school kits to teach basic First Aid and HIV/AIDS education. Ricci is donating 15 percent of sales to Nest, an organization which provides micro-finance loans for women in third world countries.

African Coin Ring

Eternal Masai Spearhead Pendant

Tanzanian Coffee Bean Necklace

A few pieces from the collection include:

African Coin Ring - Approximately one inch in diameter, this ring is made from one of the coins found in a basket of rusty old Tanzanian and British coins. ($100-$470)

Eternal Life Masai Spearhead Pendant – This pendant is made from a Masai spearhead found in the Arusha Bazaar in Tanzania and stamped with the DNA sequence for a Telomere. In essence, if you can keep the Telomere alive, which some geneticists purport potentially possible, you can achieve “eternal life” by halting the ageing process. ($150-$650)

Tanzanian Coffee Bean Necklace - When Ricci discovered that coffee is one of Tanzania’s largest exports, she thought it would be simple, small and significant if she were to make jewelry from a Tanzanian coffee bean. ($60-$200)

About Jessica Ricci – Inspiration to Creation

Jessica grew up in Providence, RI and studied English Literature at Holy Cross College in Worcester, Massachusetts. After graduating, she moved to Montana where she volunteered for an emergency services organization. There she learned how to bead simple necklaces- not knowing that the seed for jewelry design had been planted during those snowed-in wintery nights. Eventually, Jessica made her way back to Rhode Island where she worked for a small, local newspaper in a fishing town. She then moved to New York City and received her graduate degree in Journalism from New York University and worked for several publications.

In 2001, Ricci moved to Italy to pursue her interest in writing, teaching and creating jewelry. In the ancient, magical city of Rome, Jessica became inspired to create more than beaded necklaces. Through a good deal of trial and error and self-teaching, Jessica's ideas came to fruition and became the jewelry that speaks to so many.

Upon her return to the States in 2005, Ricci officially founded JL Ricci Designs, and today she creates and produces her collections from her studio and retail space in Providence, Rhode Island.

Rent Vintage Umbrellas and Parasols from Bella Umbrella for Your Next Event!

We love a good find and Bella Umbrella is definitely that! I stumbled upon Bella Umbrella on the Hostess with the Mostess blog when I saw this beautiful Parisian Baby Shower by Lollipop Events & Design. Many of these vintage umbrellas or parasols were made in the 1930's, 1940's and the 1950’s covering the Art Deco, Hollywood glamour and sixties mod periods. They are the perfect addition to a wedding, bridal or baby shower or themed event. The best part is they ship them to you two days before your event with a pre-paid return shipping label. Doesn’t get any better than that!

Kayla's Candy Land

It was fun working with this mom because she is a graphic designer by profession. She created the invite and we used it as inspiration for the rest of the project. Kayla's mother also designed signs that were used on beverages and a dessert table banner. When guests entered the party, they were greeted by candy-wrapped columns and a “Welcome to Kayla’s Candy Land” banner with a peppermint candy walkway.

The dessert table featured cupcakes by
Passion for Pastry and assorted candies that the kids could fill in their own personal tins. Each candy tin had a custom sticker, as well as the centerpieces, which all complimented the original invite design. Outside, there were hanging cellophane-wrapped lanterns that resembled life-sized hard candies. Life-sized lollipops lined the pool, re-creating the Lollipop Acres atmosphere from the original board game.

Princess Frostine’s Fruit Punch and Lolly’s Lemonade was served and guests enjoyed a BBQ provided by
Christafaro's Catering. Rainbow-swirl lollipops with Kayla’s Candy Land custom stickers were displayed on the high-tops and main outdoor dining table. In addition to the candy tins, each child received a Candy Land board game as a party favor. Photography by Alana Harris Photography.

Sip 'n See Featured on Pizzazzerie

We are excited to be featured on Pizzazzerie!

The peacock theme was one of the nursery décor choices, so after our client chose a beachy option, we decided to do the Sip & See in the peacock theme. We designed custom invites, stationery for thank yous, hang tags, pick sticks and a pattern Gumdrop Cookie Shop printed for us. The guests loved them and Gumdrop Cookie Shop did an amazing job recreating the design. There was a “hand wash station” with monogrammed Luke towels with the peacocks and a sign that read “He’s as cute as he can be. Please wash your hands so he stays germ free.” Guests enjoyed the “peacocktail” which was champagne with a splash of Blue Curacao and tea sandwiches by Christafaro’s Catering. Peacock feathers were added to the centerpieces to keep the theme throughout the table settings. The dessert table featured cupcakes and cheesecake pops compliments of Southern Belle’s Cakery, M&M’s in apothecaries, a large branchy centerpiece, and Baby Luke banner by Party Starters, all incorporating the light blue and teal color palette.
